What’s Your Zone of Awareness?

A Playful Dive into Energy, Animals, and Being the Leader of Your Life

Hey y’all — let’s talk about something that most people don’t even know exists…Something so simple, so natural, so present all the time — and if you really tap into it, it could totally transform how you function in the world.

What is it?

Your Zone of Awareness.

And I’m telling you right now — if you’re not playing with your zone of awareness, you’re missing out on one of the most dynamic tools of energy and consciousness available to you.

Let’s go there. Let’s go full Connor-mode. Let's explore: What’s YOUR zone of awareness?

First of All... What Is a Zone of Awareness?

“Zone of awareness” was actually discovered by Gary Douglas, the founder of Access Consciousness, while he was out in the wild — literally — following a herd of wild horses through Joshua Tree National Forest in California.

Now before you think, “Oh this is just horse stuff,” hold up. This applies to all of us. But horses? Horses are masters of this. So let’s start there.

Picture it: Wild horses, living free, totally in tune with their environment.

When Gary watched the herd, he saw something fascinating: One horse, maybe the stallion, would have its head up — alert, sensing. All the others? Heads down, munching grass. But the instant that one horse detected a possible threat (like Gary), guess what?

BOOM — every single horse lifted its head at the exact same moment.

No talking. No signals. No text messages.

Just awareness. Shared awareness. Energetic awareness.

And that's the beginning of understanding your zone of awareness.

Leaders of the Herd Have the Widest Zone

In the wild, the lead stallion (who often walks at the back, by the way — not the front!) is the one with the widest zone of awareness. That’s what makes them the leader. Not dominance. Not aggression. Awareness.

Same with the lead mare — she leads from the front, guiding the direction of the herd. Two very different roles, but both of them functioning from massive zones of awareness.

So, what if leadership — whether in your family, your work, your relationship, or your life — isn’t about control or telling people what to do?

What if true leadership is about expanding your awareness so much that others feel safe and inspired just by being around you?

Wait... Do Humans Have a Zone of Awareness Too?

Yes! All animals do. And humans, surprise, we are animals. (We just like to pretend we’re not.)

Every one of us has a zone of awareness, but unlike animals, we often forget to use it. Why?

Well, we think too much. And the second we start thinking, analyzing, judging, doubting — that zone? It collapses.

Try This Right Now:

Stop for a second.Take a breath. And just ask your body:

“What’s my zone of awareness right now?”“How big is it?”“How far does it go?”

You might feel it grow instantly — because the moment you acknowledge it, it starts to expand.

Boom. That’s energy. That’s your awareness. That’s your zone.

Collapsing vs. Expanding Your Zone

Let’s say you’re walking your dog. Or riding a horse. Or sitting with your child. And you start thinking…

  • “Did I send that email?”

  • “What do they think of me?”

  • “Am I doing this right?”

In that moment — you’re collapsing your zone.

When your zone of awareness collapses, you're no longer present. You're no longer the leader. And trust me — your horse, your dog, your kid, your partner — they notice.

They feel it. Animals especially. Horses will actually start to get nervous when your awareness isn’t out far enough, because they’re like:

“Wait, why am I the only one aware of these threats right now? Where are you?”

But when you expand your zone — to include the horse, the environment, the people — they relax. They trust you. They follow your energy.

“Ahh, finally. Someone else is awake.”

Leading From the Saddle: The Horse Analogy

Okay, imagine this: You’re on a horse.

You’re literally above everyone else. You’re the leader. The horse knows that. People around you see it. So the horse? Is looking to you to lead.

But if your awareness is collapsed — meaning your zone is smaller than the horse’s — then the horse starts to question things.

They might resist. Pull. Spook. Not because they’re “bad” or “misbehaving,” but because you’re not being the leader your position requires.

The moment you expand your awareness to be larger than theirs? You include everything. You see what they see.You sense what they sense.

And they go:

“Phew, you got this. I can chill now.”

This applies to dogs. To cats. To kids. To clients. To everyone.

Your presence matters. Your awareness leads.

So... What’s Your Zone of Awareness?

Here’s the golden question of this blog: What’s your zone of awareness?

And right after that comes:

  • Is it working for you?

  • Is it too small for what you’re doing in your life?

  • Can it grow?

  • Have you even acknowledged that it’s there?

Here’s a mind-bender: Your zone of awareness might already be HUGE. You just haven’t acknowledged it yet.

And as we say in Access Consciousness:

“Anything you acknowledge can grow.”

So if you’ve been sensing your child’s mood before they say a word...If you’ve ever felt your horse’s tension before they moved...If you’ve known your friend was upset across the country...

Congratulations. You’re already functioning from awareness.

Now let’s turn it on on purpose.

Tools to Expand Your Zone of Awareness

Here are some quick, Connor-style tools to start using your zone of awareness like a badass:

1. Ask:

“How big is my zone right now?”“Does it need to be bigger?”

That simple question gets your body and being to activate it.

2. Expand:

Consciously push your energy out — to the walls of the room. Then to the city. The country. The planet. The universe.

Sounds woo? Try it. It works.

3. Use the Clearing Statement:

“Everything that doesn’t allow me to be my zone of awareness and acknowledge it — I destroy and uncreate it all.”Right and wrong, good and bad, POD and POC, all 100, shorts, boys POVADs, Creations, and beyonds.

(If you have no idea what that is — check out TheClearingStatement.com. It’s magic.)

4. Practice with Animals:

Animals are natural zone-masters. Try expanding your zone when you're with your pet. Notice how they respond. You'll be amazed.

Real-Life Zones: Kids, Work, Relationships

We often think we need to “fix” things with words, with action, with doing.

But have you ever considered that just by expanding your zone — you can shift an entire situation?

Parents do this all the time without knowing it. The moment your child gets out of your energetic zone, what happens?

“Where are they?”“What are they up to?”“Why did it get so quiet all of a sudden?”

That’s your awareness pinging you. That’s zone of awareness at work.

In business? You walk into a room, feel the tension, and immediately know how to shift it — not because of what’s said, but because you’re including everything in your awareness.

In relationships? You’re aware of what your partner isn’t saying. You can feel the change in energy before the words drop.

The more you practice, the more potent you get.

Acknowledge It. Be It. Use It.

So, what do we do now?

We acknowledge this zone of awareness as a capacity. We be it more often. And we use it — to create, to communicate, to lead, and to be the gift we came to be.

And the coolest part? You’ve likely been using it all along.

It’s not about “developing” something new. It’s about exponentializing what you already be.
